A new study conducted by sociologists at Michigan State University reveals that going through a divorce at a young age has more damaging effects on health compared to a later age.
The study was published in the magazine, Social Science & Medicine, and consisted of following 1,282 peoples’ lives for 15 years. The sociologists calculated the health differences between those that stayed married for the entire time of the study and those that experienced a divorce.
Results of the study showed that the individuals who got divorced between the ages of 35 and 41 experienced more health problems compared to those who divorced between the ages of 44 and 50, in comparison with the participants of the study who stayed married the whole time.
