A 49-year-old Lincoln, Nebraska, man was taken into custody last week after 11 bench warrants were issued for his arrest. A judge issued the warrants due to the fact that the man owes $80,000 in child support for 14 different children.
The man is behind on numerous child support payment cases that go as far back as 1984. The most recent case in which he was ordered to start paying child support began in February 2011.
The man was released less than 24 hours after being booked into jail. He was sentenced to 60 to 180 days in jail for each warrant against him, totaling up to more than four years behind bars. However, the father can avoid jail time if he begins making child support payments starting December 1. He may also have additional child support cases against him in the near future since there are 15 paternity cases currently pending that list him as the father.
