New York’s ‘no fault divorce’ law hits one year mark

In the state of New York, it used to be a requirement that there was a reason for a divorce. You had to prove that your spouse cheated, you were being physically or emotionally abused, or were completely abandoned in order to be granted a divorce.

The state has now reached their year anniversary for allowing ‘no fault’ divorces. This means that a couple does not have to wait a year and they do not need any other reason when they are seeking a divorce. The fact that the couple can not reach an agreement or get along is reason enough.

The new law was signed into law last August and was in effect six weeks later. Divorce lawyers across the state have said that they have noticed an increase in business.

If you or a loved one has been considering a divorce, this is a stressful time for the whole family. Contact the Manhattan Beach divorce lawyers of the Law Offices of Baden V. Mansfield by calling 310-546-5858 today.
